SoZo supports Hong Kong Dog Rescue
Hong Kong no longer has a stray cat problem due to the implementation of the highly successful SPCA Cat Colony Care Program (which relies on sterilization of strays and ferals so that they do not breed). A similar humane "K9 Catch & Care" program for dogs, although already implemented in cities around the world as a modern day alternative to euthanisation, is sorely resisted by the Hong Kong Government. The result of this lack of action is that over 12,000 stray and unwanted dogs are rounded up and destroyed by the (AFCD) Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department each year.
Hong Kong Dog Rescue was founded by Sally Anderson in 2002. HKDR began as Sally’s one-woman mission to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs from the AFCD. Each day she visits the AFCD Kennels where she has the soul destroying job of choosing which dogs are given a second chance.
Together with her team of dedicated and passionate volunteers, Hong Kong Dog Rescue is more of a community project, and has now become one of Hong Kong’s most active and successful dog re-homing organisations.
The SoZo Team were happy to volunteer in helping HKDR move to their new temporary location, and to make and donate a video of this heart warming event “The Big Move”.
